3 Myths about Self Storage

Only in the past few years, people started to trust the self storage facilities more and more. Despite the fact that they have become more popular, people still have some trust issues when it comes to leaving their belongings in rented storage spaces. This is mostly because of the myths created around this subject. The negative stories have always appeared in the media but the positive facts and statistics about this subject are still in the shadows. Here are the most three popular myths destroyed: 1.    Rented self storage facilities are not safe. Whoever said that couldn’t be more wrong. Indeed there have been a few isolated cases in which certain self storage facilities were vandalized by thieves but that doesn’t happen every day.  What you need to know is that the self storage facilities provide surveillance and CCTV cameras in position all around the site and most of the self storage sites have computerized gates everywhere which are accessed by codes. And those codes are not known by everyone. Also, besides the codes, there are security guards stationed at every main door and they perform regular patrols all around the self storage site. Some of these facilities also have X-ray scanners and breach detection fences which are not that easy to pass through. So, what do you think now? Do the self storage sites seem defenseless and prone to being vandalized by thieves?2.    Self storage facilities have a limited list of things that can be stored. Again, nothing more wrong. In a rented self storage facility you can store virtually everything, and when we say that, we actually mean everything. There is nothing out there you could possibly imagine that can`t be stored in such spaces. But, as in every area, there are some restrictions as well. Every company that rent self storage hast its own policies which need to be respected. If you are not sure whether the objects you want to store can be stored or not, then you should talk directly to one of the company`s representatives or with the owner. But when talking about the size of the things you need to store, you don’t have to worry, the self storage spaces come in all shapes and sizes, and some of them even have temperature control for documents. 3.      Self storage is too expensive. No, self storage is not such an expensive service. Not at all, in fact. The price you pay is calculated according to the period of time and the size of the self storage unit you want to rent, so you pay exactly for what you get. Another financial advantage is that you are not forced to keep your belongings in a certain storage unit if you don’t want to anymore, because you pay the rent on a monthly basis, and not on a yearly lease. Sounds quite good, doesn’t it? In reality it is as good as it sounds. The only downside to this, is that storage space is limited and it`s taken very fast.
