10 Important Things to Remember when Moving out of your Home
There are many things to remember when it comes to moving home but what are the most important things to bear in mind? Regardless of where you are moving to, moving from and what you are taking with you the following will help make your move as efficient and as stress free as possible.1. Be OrganisedYou don’t want to leave anything to the last minute and then discover you have forgotten or haven’t ordered something. Make a list of everything you need to do and make a timeline for when these things need to be done by.2. Have a Clear OutWhat is the point in taking things with you that you haven’t worn or used in years? There also may be many things that don’t work and are broken. Go through each room and sort out what can be donated to charity, or perhaps sold, and what needs to be thrown away. This will give you a clean slate in your new home.3. Hire a Removal CompanyIt will be a less stressful and more efficient move for you if you hire a professional company of movers. They will have a range of services on offer, from packing and moving a whole house to partial or no packing at all. Come companies also offer unpacking, what more could you ask for!4. Have you got insurance? While your belongings are in transit you need to ensure you are fully insured. No matter how careful you or the moving company are, accidents can happen so you need to be covered if they do.5. Decide on a moving dateWhen the time comes come to decide on when you are moving, take a look at the calendar and look out for potential days and dates that could cause you problems. You want to avoid bank holidays and peak hours. Try and go for a week day and wait until the morning rush hour and school run is over.6. Speak to your utility companies & service suppliersLet your gas, electric & water companies know you are moving and when. On the morning of the move take the required meter readings and pass this on. Make sure you notify them of your move via phone or email and confirm this with a letter, sometimes the written word is the best. Also let your phone, television and broadband supplier know of your move and if you are staying with them organise a date for them to connect you at your new home.7. Change your personal detailsEnsure you notify your employers, insurance company, bank, etc. that you are moving. Making a ‘I’ve Moved’ card stating your new address and sending out to friends and family is also a good idea. 8. StorageIf you think you are going to need storage then now is the time to organise it. You may not want to or be able to take all your belongings with you. Speak to your removal company about the options they have on offer. 9. Have someone look after your children and/or petsThe moving day will be stressful enough without having the added worry of your children and pets welfare to contend with. Speak to friends and relatives to see if anyone can help with looking after them for a few hours. 10. Pack a moving bagThere will be a few items that you will need on the day, either medication for yourself or items to ease you into your home. Make a list of things you want to pack into a box or holdall and carry with you on the day. Include items like a kettle, cups, tea bags, toilet roll, and hand towels.
